Ruby on Rails Developer

Job Description:

We're looking for an experienced web developer to work on the interface of www.billmonitor.com - a scientific mobile price comparison engine. You'll be tasked with working alongside our lead web developer in both maintaining the existing site and designing/building new features. You must be passionate about good design and usability.

About us:

Optimor's next generation comparison technology provides personalised and accurate recommendations to consumers, integrating state-of-the-art research in mathematical statistics by Oxford academics. We are an Oxford (UK) based start-up, funded by Europe’s leading early stage investors, The Accelerator Group, and Finance South East. This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to an energetic tech start-up while working with a talented team of developers and mathematicians.

Responsibilities:

• Design and build new features for BillMonitor using Ruby on Rails, Haml and Sass.
• Information architecture and Usability testing - we deal with a lot of data that has to make sense to the public.
• Cross browser skills, JavaScript.
• Peer review of colleague's work.
• Contribute to architectural decisions.

Requirements:

• Demonstrated experience in web development —with product/project reference.
• Expert level familiarity with web technologies, including CSS, Ajax and Javascript.
• Experience with an MVC framework (pref. Ruby on Rails).

Extras:

• Linux sysadmin experience.
• Design skills/experience.
• SEO experience.

Education:

• Any relevant 2:1 degree: we are looking for passion and flair.

Software Engineer

Job Description:

We're looking for an experienced engineer whose core responsibility will be to build and maintain web crawlers that extract and save complex data. You'll be working on the backend of www.billmonitor.com, our flagship product: the UK's first and only Ofcom accredited scientific mobile price comparison engine. Ideally you'll have had several years experience working with Python.
